Does Village of Sound Mind accept insurance?

Yes, Village of Sound Mind now accepts Aetna, Cigna, and United Healthcare insurance through our partnership with Alma.

Our commitment to true confidentiality and autonomy in the therapeutic process remains paramount. Partnering with Alma allows us to extend our services while maintaining these core values. By accepting these insurances, we aim to make high-quality mental health care more accessible and affordable for our clients without compromising the integrity of our therapeutic approach.

We understand that labeling, especially early in therapy, can inadvertently cause more anxiety and stress. However, with Alma's support, we can navigate the insurance landscape more effectively, ensuring our community members receive the personalized care they need without undue pressure.

Our approach is centered on empowering our clients and maintaining full agency over our work together. For clients with other insurance providers, we continue to operate independently of insurance constraints, offering monthly superbills for out-of-network (OON) insurance benefits. This allows for an effort towards reimbursement while preserving the integrity of our therapeutic process.

Additionally, understanding that individual therapy may not be financially feasible for everyone, VSM offers free and donation-based events monthly. These events ensure that all community members have access to essential mental wellness services, reflecting our dedication to holistic, accessible, and community-focused care.

Does Village of Sound Mind offer sliding scale rates?

Village of Sound Mind is dedicated to removing financial barriers to healing and embraces the concept of an Equity-Based Pricing Model, which allows us to offer flexible pricing to better align with each client's unique financial circumstances.

To determine your rate, please complete this anti-oppressive rate questionnaire. Kenya Crawford’s approach to pricing inspired this framework.

This community-centered approach empowers you to invest in your healing at a level that feels right for your situation without the need for documentation or justification. We trust your honesty in assessing your economic circumstances, ensuring that mental wellness is accessible to all.

If you don't have insurance or choose not to use insurance, you have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much any non-emergency items or services will cost. This is called a Good Faith Estimate (GFE)

Make sure your healthcare provider gives you a GFE in writing at least one (1) business day before your medical service or item, if you do not plan to submit your receipts (or “super bill”) to your insurance company for reimbursement.

You can ask for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule a service.

If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill.

Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate.

For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises or call this office (or your provider, if different) after you have scheduled an appointment or before your next scheduled appointment.
